Tired and hungry, we find an amazing restaurant called Ogniem i Mieczem, September 11, 2012. It exists in a time warp, back in medieval Poland. (Photo by Grayson Hugh)
The subterranean Harris Piano Jazz Bar, in Kraków, September 12, 2012. In the audience that night was a couple from Yorkshire, England. The guy worked at a prison over there. Amusingly, we saw them the next morning at the mall. We asked our driver to stop at the Starbucks there so we could have a good strong latte for the drive to Katowice. (Photo by Grayson Hugh)

Me "smokin" the piano, Old Timer's Garage, September 14, 2012. As I was first playing, I started hearing a loud hissing sound. It sounded like a giant cobra! I turned around and saw a trail of thick smoke billowing around my legs. (Photo by Jaroslaw Porzadny)

One of the most responsive and beautiful sounding grand pianos I ever played was the Brodmann PE 228 at The Blue Note Jazz Club in Poznan, Poland. At 7 and a half feet long, this legendary Viennese grand piano let me do things with an ease most pianos struggle to do. The action was like butter, yet strong at the same time. The experience was unforgettable. The concert Polly and I did on September 18, 2012 left me wanting to have one of these pianos one day. (Photo by Polly Messer)
