Lyrics

WAY BEYOND THE WORLD OF YOU & ME
(A Letter To My Love)
Words & Music by Grayson Hugh

I wandered for a year ‘cross the cold sky spaces
past fields and farms and so many faces
by lakes that had names of dead indians

and towns that lay dreaming off in the dusty distance

And in the ground the ghosts lay sleeping
counting the buffalo

who used to cross the prairies like armies
going wherever they wished to go
going way beyond the world of you and me

I wandered for a week up in the mountain tops
where the air grows thinner than you ever thought
and the higher up I climbed the less I knew
and the snow up there was so white that it was blue

I made a bed of thick pine needles

in the shadow of a drift
like a bear I cast a spell of sleep
as the earth began to shift
going way beyond the world of you and me

I wandered lost for days in ten broken cities
in places filled with people without pity
where buildings grew and blotted out the sky
and the only smile I saw was the full moon’s eye

I sat up on the rooftop
as the stars were falling down
I watched the city glow like fireflies
lit for miles around
going way beyond the world of you and me
way beyond the world of you and me
