~ ALRIGHT ALREADY ~
Words & Music by Grayson Hugh

We were walkin’ down the long green hill
fulla seed pods and scattered wildflowers
all around us was that closed down amusement park
on the shores of a lake
and it was too hot to go anyplace
too humid to be alive

We both had some fierce fantasies
we were imagining and writing
unraveling like a drop-down ball of string
yes we were

There’s no place for mistakes
or second takes or half-baked ginger cakes

I’ve known you since the first time you came to see me
in my underground late night band
we were playin’ out at the late night cranberry bars
and hootenanny hops

Yeah we was on the long road
headed to billabongs and backwoods bogs
and rivers with hobo preachers
ridin’ runaway logs
and Vermont roads fulla jumpin’ rain frogs
we had a long way to go
ooh yeah long way to go

I never looked back
never wanted to look at the
many miles of words, wants
and all kindsa colours

They used to come in the dance room
carryin’ their big bags
there were soft brown, dark black hair
vivid blonde, faded pale sunflower wisps
sittin’ down in front of me
I was hidin’ at the piano

Love saved me
from my pain-of-love, sonata-soarin’,
roarin’, obsession-burnin’
and beauty-overloadin’ feelings
that came floatin’ on like fast clouds
and sudden storms
that would fill me with a gravity
and there I’d be
in a long slow spin
mmm hmmmm
a slow strong dream of a brand new love
brand new love, brand new love
don’t you know

And I looked at her
sittin’ in that car, she was drivin’ me on
in my next slow decade chapter

For a sliver of a second
I broke the rules
and I looked at her sittin’
in her driver seat so cool
her long flowin’ blonde hair just willow
on her sweet neck
and a little cheery voice in my imagined-soul choir
kept shoutin’ out “don’t look there — don’t look there, son”

There was somethin’ had already begun
there was a pause
and I can’t tell ya how long
mighta been a moment mighta been a song ..
and that invisible big soundtrack of our lives
that was playin’ above our heads and in our hearts

And in that last breath of that moment
there was a silent sky-sized flash

AND GOD TOOK A PICTURE OF US
with that giant celestial polaroid

and in the breath we both let go tumblin’ out
both of us knew
there was no way
no way we could go
down temptation road
on temptation road
no no no no no no
no way, no how

That’s ok anyhow
not back then
in that frozen broken-down ferris wheel day
when our elbows bumped
and we dropped our shields
it was gonna take another century
to dream that dream and make it real

In the meantime we both had to find our own wanderin’ way

but…… but ….

Let me just look at you
sittin’ in that car a little longer if I may
just a - just a - just a little bit longer
yeah just a little bit longer

Our time had already been won
we were waitin’ for the sound of the gun
that would tell us when to take step one
‘cause you and me had already begun
and were were ready
we were ready heady steady
travelin’ in the real strong middle of the eddy

Alright alright alright
alright already
alright, alright, are you ready?
Baby are you truly ready?
Alright alright alright
alright already
alright alright
alright already
