GRAYSON HUGH

Grayson Hugh returns to the church he grew up in on Friday May 19th, 2017 for an evening of songs and stories. Joining him for this Music At The Meeting House concert is his wife singer Polly Messer.The church is located at 60 Gold St, Hartford, CT 06103.  Phone: (860) 249-5631Center Church was established in 1632 by Thomas Hooker, one of the founders of Hartford. The first Congregational church in Hartford, Center Church has many daughter churches in the area including First Church, Farmington (1652), South Church, Hartford (1670), First Church, East Hartford (1702), First Church, West Hartford (1713), Asylum Hill Congregational Church (1865), and Immanuel Congregational Church (1899 – a merger of daughter churches North Church and Pearl Street Church).The Hugh family attended services there from his childhood through his teens and into his twenties. Grayson's father taught Sunday School there and his grandmother, Florence Lang Rawlinson, who had been a missionary in India and China in her youth, was very involved in the church's mission work.Grayson even wrote a song about the church's Camp Asto Wamah on Columbia Lake (called "I Remember A Place"), which he will be performing for the first time in public. He will be telling stories of his adventures at that camp, of one of his early bands with fellow Center Church kids, and of the times he performed at the church's coffeehouse The Blue Door in the late 1960s and early 70s. He and Polly will also be performing songs from his vast repertoire of international radio hits as well as his songs that were featured in the Oscar-winning films "Thelma and Louise" and "Fried Green Tomatoes".
